MARRIAGE/DIVORCE CERTIFICATES
Provides certified marriage/divorce certificates for individuals married in the Commonwealth of Virginia after 6/1912. Marriage records become public information 50 years after the date of the event. Prior to that time, they are available to immediate family members only. Marriage certificates may be requested in person (same day service available in Richmond), via U.S. mail (5 - 10 business days), or via fax/phone/online through Vitalchek (2 - 3 business days). Regardless of request method, the following information is needed to process a request: name, date of marriage/divorce, place of marriage/divorce, requestor's relationship, reason for certificate, and the
